The Norfolk and Suffolk League was formed in 1961. It was formed to set up a series of games between golf clubs on a Thursday night which often was one of the quietest of the week. A game of foursomes with five pairs per side so twenty players in a match with dinner and drinks afterwards. It is a league so points are awarded for winning or drawing games.
The original clubs were Bungay and Waveney, Gorleston, Gt Yarmouth and Caister, Rookery Park and Southwold. In 2002 Caldecott Hall replaced Southwold. Some clubs reduced down to just one team. The current set up is that Bungay and Gorleston run one team and the others run two teams.
The league is run by a Secretary. For the past five years the Secretary has been Mark Chilvers, of Rookery Park, assisted by Bob Adams from Caldecott. A great many thanks to them for undertaking the job, it can be a thankless task but more often a great feeling of friendship and fun. Both have done a great job in keeping the league running smoothly.
